Mission Opportunities
of the United Methodist Church of Naugatuck
Missions and Outreach Pamphlet
Change the World - Our participation in the ‘Change the World’ campaign is conjunction with a national United Methodist initiative. Once a year in May, United Methodists from around the world join in a day of church service and outreach in an effort to fulfill our mission of service and making disciples for Jesus Christ. After a sending forth blessing by the Pastor, the Church closes its’ doors for a Sunday, and the entire Congregation, under the direction of group leaders, heads out into the community for a day of service to others.
CityFest - CityFest is a collaboration of about 20 churches and non-profit social service agencies collectively reaching out to the Greater Waterbury community with an “out of box” presentation of the gospel. This event takes place once a year in Waterbury in Library Park.
Flood Recovery -
In 2011, from January 8 through 15, we participated in a mission trip
to Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, which is still recovering from the 2008 flood. We painted, sheet
rocked, and re-habed some homes and apartments in cooperation with a
group
called "Block by Block."
Please visit the website at StormRecovery (IOWA).
The Trip
took place from January 8 through 15, 2011.

NEON - Naugatuck Ecumenical Outreach Network - NEON dinners provide fellowship and a free hot meal to community families who may need a helping hand or to those who would just like to fellowship with neighbors without having to cook the meal themselves. The meals take place at St. Michaels Church, which has a Health Department compliant kitchen, on Saturday dates, once a month from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Workers should report between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. Help is needed to setup, serve, and clean up. Questions? See Pastor Steven or Ethel Grant.
Operation Christmas Child - Since the beginning of Operation Christmas Child in 1993, countless lives of children and families around the world are touched by the simple gift of a ‘shoebox’ filled with various items, including gifts, toys, school supplies, and they are offered hope through the Good News of Jesus Christ. We participate in the global outreach of Operation Christmas Child, and we also serve as a shoebox drop off point for the Naugatuck Valley. For more information, please visit: OperationChristmasChild
